Thanks to Rico's for great pizza, and to our special guests AnneMarie and Laura -- ace librarians and booktalkers from the Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library.  Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed the company of fellow readers!   Mark your calendars for our next get-together, Friday, March 19.

Snapshot Day at HF

On February 10, 2010, the Illinois Library Association invited all Illinois libraries to gather statistics, photos and comments to create a "snapshot" of just one day in the library.  Here's what a typical day looked like at HF.

Libba Bray's GOING BOVINE wins the 2010 Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature

The Michael L. Printz Award is given each year by the American Library Association for a book that exemplifies literary excellence.  Here's a description of the plot from the publisher's web site:
All 16-year-old Cameron wants is to get through high school—and life in general—with a minimum of effort. It’s not a lot to ask. But that’s before he’s given some bad news: he’s sick and he’s going to die. Which totally sucks. Hope arrives in the winged form of Dulcie, a loopy punk angel/possible hallucination with a bad sugar habit. She tells Cam there is a cure—if he’s willing to go in search of it. With the help of a death-obsessed, video-gaming dwarf and a yard gnome, Cam sets off on the mother of all road trips through a twisted America into the heart of what matters most.
Believe us when we say that this description doesn't even begin to describe what is going on in this wonderful book. You'll want to read it, then re-read it to pick up everything you missed the first time.
